Evaluation

We created two, one hour shows for our music based assignment. One of them being live, the other being recorded. We decided to let The encore show be the live show as it fits in more with the theme of Children In Need.
For both shows, my role was P.A as its very important to be on time especially for our live show, as we was on a tight scehdule. i find my self at ease when i'm taking the role as P.A. The only problem i had was to keep quiet, and having to symbolise how long we have left rather than say it out loud. For the encore show, we had an extra camera in the room, so for entertainment purposes and for children in need, myself and amy danced infront of the cameras. This was all just for a bit of fun, but i understood that this was my assignment and i did take it seriously. For pre - production i created the Idents for both shows and got involved with any Cross Media i could. For example, i took a few photos of the team members at work to be placed on our facebook pages, i was acting in the Video features for The encore show and i directed and camera assisted the promo for the Tea and Toast show which is also on the facebook page. With the promo being on the social networking websites, this means that this is going to be watched mostly by our targeted audience (16-24).
The content in the Tea and Toast show, i believe could not be suited better. By having young presenters makes it easier for our audience to relate to both male and female. Features such as prank calls teenagers would find humorous. And by asking them to send in photos of their breakfast is all to do with todays techonology being able to do it on their phones. The music we had on this show was related to our audience as its all chart music which is listened to by many teenagers. With them being happy upbeat songs too, it gets the audience in the mood for the day because its a morning show. Idents were also very upbeat and happy, not just to attract our audience but to also change our audiences mood to a happier mood. The idents could have been a lot shorter and snappier as they only need to be short and sweet. I thought that we should have had 2 presenters rather than 3. The more presenters we have, the more chance they will speak on top of each other and the listener wouldnt be able to understand whats being said. I also think that sam sligtly took over most talk times and Adele and Amy had not so much, but they all had good chemistry. A few things that we could have improved on was coming into speeech idents and songs, the transition between all. The way this could be improved is for Ollie to officially give the presenter a signal to start speaking and that he makes sure that the levels are right up so its clear when theyre speaking. Because this shoe had alot of chat in it, we could not predict when any of the presenters would distort the microphones. The only way we could present this, is to warn all presenters if they were going to scream/be loud, move away from the microphone.

The content for the encore show was also very suited to the audience of 25 + women in particular. By having a female presenter speaking very maturely, this adds to the interpretation of the Elain Paige show we was aiming for. The music included in our afternoon show was all based around our primary research so its perfectly targeted to our audience because its what they wanted. The same applied to our features, and luckily enough we had a feature that linked to Children in need when our college went to Hairpsray at the hippodrome so we included this to our show. Mainly this show is where me and Amy had included our dancing skills to the camera. this is just for fun and entertainment purposes. We didnt have a soundbed on the Encore show, just liek the Elain paige as if it works for Elain Paige with the same targeted audience then it will work with us. The presenter being alone works very well, but listening to it back it does seem like she's reading, if we had a second chance, we would make sure that it doesnt sound read and make her sound alot more fluent.

I do believe both of our morning and afternoon show worked really well. Job roles given out to everbody was equal and fair and a lot of team work was given. Personally, i thought i should have took the role as P.A a bit more serious than i did, (but i couldnt help it than to be excited and dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but the shows reached their targeted audience.

One way of gettin feedback is to create another questonaire jus for around the college to ask them how the show went, what could have gone better, what they enjoyed etc, as the encore show was broadcasted round the college, so most students would have listened/watched it.

Features

Tea and toast

Prank feature

This feature is similar to Scott mills on Radio 1 as we have similar targeted audience. The idea of the feature, is to call up companies, and whilst on this call, have to mention 5 words that have been given to them in a conversation. This feature was pre-recorded, so its easier for me to do timings and just incase some of the content was inappropriate.

Know your lyrics

Know your lyrics is when a phrase out of song has been spoken to the contestants and they have to guess what song it is from. Because we had no buzzers as such, the contestants had to create their own buzzer by using animal noises. We decided to use millie to present this just to give the listeners a variety of voices. in comparison to our other feature, this ones going to be live, and was based near the end of the show, so its easier to wrap up for the P.A just incase we go over. This feature can also add audience participation.
This is similar to the program Never mind the buzz-cocks.

The Encore

Interview with musical theatre student

We had an interview with one of our students here at Stratford college to give an insight of where the career of a performer starts. Stratford college is well known for their facilities and ability to the Performing arts Industry so we thought we'd take this to the advantage.

Music reviews

We created this feature based on our Primary research, We asked the question, 'Would you like to listen to musical reviews?' and the majority of the public answered yes. This gives the audience an insight on which musicals are worth watching. Here is one Review Amy's done.

What musical is this? (Online)

To add to our cross media, Georgie had created a feature where we had to act out some scenes from musicals and then we leave the audience to guess where the musicals from? We will place these videos onto facebook and then tag every team member to enlarge the population to view the video. It will also be on youtube. i participated in these videos as an actor, ( a very dramatic one at that) To find these videos search The encore show into facebook and youtube.

The Encore Show Treatment

Format

Live radio show to be broadcast for children in need.

Duration

1 hour

Intended audience

The primary audience for this show would be middle age women as this group of people enjoy watching and going to musicals, on our ‘test run’ we found that the ladies in the zone (ages 45+) really enjoyed the music and we got some very good feedback from them. However our secondary audience would be people of all ages as everyone enjoys musicals in some form of medium. We found that in our rehearsals we had lots of people singing along and dancing to the well known classics.

Style

As the show’s content is very similar to that of Elaine Page’s BBC 2 show we have chosen to make the style very similar too. We are doing that by having mainly music, a female presenter and lots of facts about each different musical. We also have a interview with a ‘actress’ which is also featured on the BBC 2 show.

Rationale

We believe our show is something different, a style that no one else had chosen to use for children in need. It will be a good ‘break’ from all of the current music and conversation. Musicals are for all ages and we play music that everyone appreciates.

Feasibility

We think this radio show is very feasible as there is such a wide audience for it, it is fun and exiting.

Budget

No budget necessary

Deadline

The show goes live on the 17th November

Treatment for The Tea and Toast Show

Format

We are going to record this show onto Myriad and also broadcast it on Ustream so there is an online copy available.

Our prank call feature will be recorded onto a Zoom mp3 recorder and edited on Soundtrack Pro.

Duration

The duration of this show will be exactly one hour long. We will be able to do this, as we will rehearse the show before hand and time all the links. Also the scheduler on Myriad will allow us to keep track of the time.

Intended Audience

Our Tea and Toast show is targeting an audience of 16- 24 year olds. The presenting style and the features will therefore appeal to this age group. The show will be broadcasted around college and advertised on facebook and therefore will reach our target audience.

Synopsis

Our show is going to be presented by Sam, Adele and Amy. As the programme is music based the main content of the show will be the music. We have decided to play tracks that are modern and popular.

We have two features for our show. Know Your Lyrics is when one sentence of a song is said and then the contestants have to guess the next lyric. We choose to have the competitors making an animal noise when they want to make a guess, as this will add another humorous element to the game. We decided to get Millie to present this feature as then it’s different voice for the listeners and allows all three presenters to play along and therefore create more of a competition. We chose this feature as it allows the audience to play along. This feature is going to be live, as this will create a better competitive mood.

Our other feature is a prank call one. Adele or Sam are given 5 words that they have to fit into a phone conversation. This feature will be pre-recorded so that it can be edited so that it’s shorter and all content is suitable.

The content of our links will be informal and relaxed with subjects such as what listeners are having for breakfast.

Style

The style of the show will be informal and chatty. As the show has three presenters it will be very conversational with hopefully some humour.

Rationale

We decided to do a show in the style and for this audience, as we believe that, as we fit into the target audience ourselves, we can create an enjoyable show for this audience. If the presenters are enjoying themselves then the audience will realise this and hopefully enjoy the show too.

Feasibility

This show idea is possible as there is an existing audience and they are easy to reach as the show is going to be broadcasted around the college and the students fit into the age group. The show should be easy to make as we

Budget

We will not need a budget for this show, as all the equipment is available from college.

Deadline

22nd October
